The RNC Platform Committee resoundingly voted down a proposed amendment that would have added strong language regarding the soundness of money to the Party’s platform yesterday. On the voice vote, there were a few “yeas” and a convention-hall-filling chorus of “no’s”. It can be found about a quarter of the way into part 1 of the C-SPAN video series of the meetings.

This is a very encouraging development and I’m starting feel much more optimistic about the future should the Republicans win in November. Of course this is only one small step in reassurance because the platform is really only a guidepost for governance and many times is completely ignored after the votes are counted and winners take their oaths. It shows, however, that at least the majority of participants in developing the platform aren’t willing to commit to sacrificing jobs and income so inflation-nutters can get a free ride from mattress stuffing.
